I'm an self-taught artist who comes from a long line of self-taught artists. Although my family has never used the expression "artist," because for them it was part of who they were without even knowing it. It was part of every day life. There is an expression in french "Artiste d'ame" which renders (direct translation) "Artist of the Soul". Many in my family may be labeled as such.
Here I am trying to carry on the tradition. I've, since 2004, put together a small craft business in which I sell my art jewelry, fused glass, wire sculpture and more. The business is quite successful and keeps me on my feet. I must always come up with new ideas. It can be a challenge, but I always enjoy it.
Since my interests vary from stones, to metals, to glass, to forging, to soldering, to wire work and sculpture, I can never really focus on one venue. I'm constantly moving to and fro each of these. Some may not understand this, but if I don't vary in my work, I get very bored. Once I've developed a method and perfected it, it no longer presents a challenge, therefore I need to mix it up in order to reach my true potential.
